Chennai: Delhi Capitals took the revenge for their loss to Mumbai Indians in the final of the IPL last season in the UAE. Rishabh Pant’s DC defeated Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai by six wickets in the 13th match of this season. DC was in the driving seat shortly after Mumbai’s innings started. Mumbai, who opted to bat after winning the toss, collapsed in the middle of the innings. Mumbai scored 137 for nine. At one point, Mumbai were on course to score 170-180. But with the collapse in middle overs, DC’s target for victory was reduced.
Only skipper Rohit Sharma (44) was able to shine in the Mumbai line-up. Hitman’s innings included three fours and three sixes off 30 balls. Ishan Kishan (26), Suryakumar Yadav (24) and Jayant Yadav (23) were the only other batsmen to cross the two figure-mark. He dismissed four wickets for just 24 runs in four overs. Avesh Khan took two wickets.
Mumbai had a bad start. They lost to De Kock when the team score was nine. But Mumbai got on track as Suryakumar came up with Rohit for the second wicket. Both punished the DC bowlers when given a chance. Mumbai had already crossed 60 runs in the sixth over. But at team score of 67, Surya’s dismissal became the turning point of the game. Avesh Khan presented the long awaited breakthrough to DC. Rohit left the crease after adding just nine more runs. The wicket was for Mishra.
In the same over, Hardik was out leg before wicket when team score was 77 by Mishra in the fourth over. Mumbai lost five wickets for 17 runs. Mumbai could not recover from this collapse.
