Chennai: Delhi Capitals won the first super over thriller of the 14th season of the IPL. Batting first, DC scored 159 for four. SRH’s reply ended with the same score for seven wickets. SRH batted first in the Super Over and scored seven runs. Skipper David Warner and Kane Williamson were the ones who came out to bat. Axar Patel was the bowler. SRH scored seven runs in the super over with one boundary. In the final ball of the reply, DC chased down this score. Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Rishabh batted for DC. Rashid Khan was the bowler of SRH. This is DC’s third consecutive victory in the tournament.
Williamson led SRH’s reply, who were chasing 160, to victory. He was unbeaten on 66 off 51 balls with eight fours. Williamson was the savior of the team with a patient innings despite losing wickets on the other end Jonny Bairstow (38) is another key scorer for SRH. J Suchith was unbeaten on 14 off six balls with two fours and a six. The others could not cross two figure mark.
SRH needed 16 runs in the last over to win. Kagiso Rabada bowled the final over and teh batsmen tried hard but could only hit one four and a six in the over and manage 15 runs. With this, the game was over. Captain David Warner (6), Virat Singh (4), Kedar Jadhav (9), Abhishek Sharma (5) and Rashid Khan (0) are the others who got out. Avesh Khan took three wickets for DC while Akshar Patel took two wickets. Not even a half-century partnership was in their entire innings.
Warner and Bairstow put on 28 for the opening wicket. The alliance split after Warner was run out. Bairstow, on the other hand, continued his aggressive batting. The Bairstow-Williamson pair added 28 runs for the second wicket. But Bairstow got dismissed soon. After hitting a boundary and a six in Awesh Khan’s over Bairstow got out trying a risky shot in the same over. SRH could only add 28 runs for the third wicket, similar to the first two. SRH’s third wicket fell when Virat was out for 4 runs.
Kedar Jadhav was stumped by skipper Rishabh for trying to get out of the crease in Amit Mishra’s over in an attempt to raise the run rate. SRH 4 for 104. Axar Patel put Abhishek and Rashid in front of the wicket in successive balls to put pressure on SRH.
Earlier Sunrisers Hyderabad were set a target of 160 for victory over Delhi Capitals. After the toss, DC opted to bat and scored 159 for four in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Prithvi Shaw (53)’s innings gave DC a better score. He hit seven fours and a six off 39 balls in the innings.
Skipper Rishabh Pant (37), Shikhar Dhawan (28) and Steve Smith (34 *) were the other leading scorers for DC. Shimron Hetmeyer (1) disppointed yet again. Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten on two with Smith. Siddharth Kaul took two wickets for SRH. Rashid Khan took one wicket.
The start of DC was good. Dhawan and Prithvi put on 81 for the opening wicket. DC had passed 80 runs in 10 overs. SRH got their first breakthrough in the 11th over. Dhawan, the owner of the Purple Cap so far, was bowled by Rashid. Prithvi also left the crease in the next over. Prithvi was run out by Suchith. Pant-Smith pair added 58 runs for the third wicket to strengthen DC. But in the last five overs, DC managed only 43 runs. They lost two wickets as well.
